Sooyeon Kim, Violinist
Since joining Albany Symphony Orchestra in 2018-19 season, violinist Sooyeon Kim has performed throughout the country as an orchestral musician with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra of New York.
Sooyeon performs with Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland during the summer and has Toured Germany and Denmark with Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra. She has held principal positions with the Juilliard Opera,Chautauqua Institution Music School Festival Orchestra and has appeared as concertmaster with the Juilliard Chamber Orchestra.
An avid chamber musician, Sooyeon was a member of the Elysian Quartet, former participants in the Honors Chamber Music program at Juilliard And the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar. The quartet has given recitals throughout New York City, including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, and has world-premiered the work “The Island”, by composer Mao Zhu, as part of Juilliard’s 2018 Focus! Festival that featured contemporary Chinese compositions.
Sooyeon has also appeared in Juilliard’s ChamberFest and with the Taos School of Music in New Mexico where she performed and worked closely with members of the Borromeo, Brentano, Shanghai quartets and pianist Robert McDonald. Sooyeon has made solo appearances in Japan, Korea and Switzerland and has given numerous solo recitals at Lincoln Center. Sooyeon has won top prizes in the Music Teachers National Association Competition, the Friday Woodmere Music Club Young Artists Competition, and the New York Music Competition.
Sooyeon holds a B.M. and M.M. from the Juilliard School.
